what would be the better lift for my yj? 2inch suspension or 2inch body. if i do the body could i use hockey pucks? how would the pucks work for everyday driving and wheeling on the weekends till summer. then it would be everyday driving and wheeling most days? would they also be street legal? and how offten would i have to replace the pucks?

body lifts are a cheap way to get a bit bigger on tires, but suspension lift will give you better clearance all around,

hockey pucks aren't intended to be used in such a fasion. the weight of the vehicle, sunlight, etc will cause them to fall apart eventually (possibility at a very inconvenient time).
There's been much debate over them, I'd recommend doing a search of the forum.

Here is my two cents worth ;...anytime I have used hockey pucks I have broken the jeep way before the pucks had time to get bad.
9-11 pucks under body of say 600 pounds max, pucks can hold the weight.
As for the sunlight...keepping the rubber side down should help :D .
And the last thing is I had the best and fanciest poly whatever garbage under mine and had to replace them in 1 year due to cracking.

"better" and "budget" are on different sides of the coin.

if you're looking for cheap and easy then get a body lift. it'll let you run bigger tires but won't actually raise the height of the frame, t-case, and all that other stuff that's attached to the frame and not the body.

The "logic" in lifting is to get more room between the bottom of the vehicle and the ground - ground clearance. The only way to increase ground clearance is to put bigger tires on your ride (save doing a tummy tuck and/or installing portal axles etc etc).
Anything you do to your rig to fit bigger tires helps to achieve this goal however some things work better than others - i.e. 6" of hockey pucks for a body lift = bad idea imho.
There are other reasons to lift (i.e. your tires rub your wheel wells when you flex) but the main goal is ground clearance.
If you're going to boost do it for a reason i.e. bigger tires. Otherwise don't bother spending the money.

Then again, if you're just going for the look then do whatever

Look at some of the past posts on the body lift subject, ask baloo about his experience, some of your linkages may require adjustments after the lift. Oh yes also I want to be on record for supporting the use of hockey pucks in compression applications for lift device, spacers, snubber extenders etc. I use urethane products in my work, they also (like pucks) can be affected by environment exposures (chemicals, light, temperature). Use the pucks and monitor their application and condition just as you should any components on your jeep. I use pucks made in the Chech Republic, get them at cdn tire. I havn't broken a puck since about 30 years ago. The current april issue of 4wheel mag has some good lift articles that could be applicable and some good photo's of brand name disconnect parts, could be purchase or assemble components yourself. Look for applicable component parts at locations like McMaster Carr company, search on line catalogue, buy from your local industrial hardware supplier. Long winded eh. Watch your linkage adjustment. Yeh pucks. And I also agree, lift for the right reasons.
